Call & Response (Special DC Area Showing)
Schedule
& Buy Now!
Special DC Area Screening CALL+RESPONSE is a first of its kind feature documentary film that reveals the world’s 27 million dirtiest secrets: there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. CALL+RESPONSE goes deep undercover where slavery is thriving from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India to reveal that in 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.
Luminaries on the issue such as Cornel West, Madeleine Albright, Daryl Hannah, Julia Ormond, Ashley Judd, Nicholas Kristof, and many other prominent political and cultural figures offer first hand account of this 21st century trade. Performances from Grammy-winning and critically acclaimed artists including Moby, Natasha Bedingfield, Cold War Kids, Matisyahu, Imogen Heap, Talib Kweli, Five For Fighting, Switchfoot, members of Nickel Creek and Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, Rocco Deluca move this chilling information into inspiration for stopping it.
Music is part of the movement against human slavery. Dr. Cornel West connects the music of the American slave fields to the popular music we listen to today, and offers this connection as a rallying cry for the modern abolitionist movement currently brewing.

Schedule
& Buy Now!
Mr. F. Tompkins is from Philadelphia, PA, in 1994 he moved to Hollywood, CA, where he met Jay Johnston, a tall actor with whom he lovingly crafted the saucy, sassy live sketch show "The Skates". "The Skates" led Mr. F. Tompkins to a stint as a writer and performer on the HBO's Mr. Show with Bob and David, where he was nominated for an "Emmy". Paul also got to appear in a “spinoff” of Mr. Show called Tenacious D, starring Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Paul F. Tompkins also wrote and starred in his own one-man show for Home Box Office, Driven To Drink.
Paul F Tompkin has been on Late Night with Conan O'Brien several times. And in 2000, Mr. F. Tompkins was cast as "Sullivan Pope" in the situation comedy DAG for NBC, opposite David Alan Grier and Delta Burke. Then it was back to good ol’ HBO where Paul did ten fantastical segments on the news-driven program Real Time with Bill Maher.
Paul played a role in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. In LA Paul hosts The Paul F. Tompkins Show! It’s a half-assed variety program that has featured Paul messin' around with the likes of Jack Black, Dave Foley, Fiona Apple, Andy Richter and Aimee Mann.

COME SEE ANDY AT THE DRAFTHOUSE! THE NATIONAL COMEDIAN WHO KICKED IT ALL OFF!
Andy was the first of our top national comedians who have helped to create a great new offering of entertainment for the DC metro area.
Andy Kindler is known in comedy circles as a troublemaker. Originally from New York, and now complaining from California, he annoys people all over the world.
Andy is a frequent guest and correspondent for The Late Show with David Letterman. Each summer at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal he delivers the State of the Industry address to a packed ballroom filled with comics and Hollywood industry types. He is infamous for his scathing attacks on the world of entertainment, including the previously taboo practice of making fun of his fellow comedians. Just as the comedy boom of the nineties was imploding, Andy wrote the "Hack's Handbook" for National Lampoon. This "how to" guide satirized and exposed tired comedy formulas.
Andy can currently be seen in a new standup special running on Comedy Central. Other noteworthy credits include the HBO Young Comedians Special, Late Night with Conan O'Brian, The Daily Show, Dr. Katz Professional Therapist, Home Movies and The Larry Sanders Show. Andy is often recognized for playing the life affirming character "Andy" on the CBS sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond.

Alonzo Bodden at the Drafthouse Comedy Theater
Schedule
& Buy Now!
Alonzo was born in New York and lives in L.A. Fortunately he's not a rapper because he'd have to shoot himself.
Alonzo has appeared on TV's LAST COMIC STANDING, LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN, MAKE ME LAUGH, FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEOS, THIRTY-SOMETHING, POWER RANGERS, THE CRAIG KILBOURNE SHOW, THE APOLLO. He was the first comedian invited to appear on THE KEENAN IVORY WAYANS SHOW and has appeared on many other comedy shows. He’s also got an acting career with roles in BRINGIN DOWN THE HOUSE, THE GIRL NET DOOR, ANGEL, GROUNDED FOR LIFE, and PROFILER among others.
Alonzo graduated Aviation High School, and went on to work as a jet mechanic at Lockheed then McDonnell Douglas, for a total of nine years. His first assignment was the, then "Top Secret", Stealth Fighter. After a three year lay-off, Alonzo returned to find his co-workers sporting Stealth Fighter T-shirts. So much for "Top Secret". Alonzo swears he didn't leak the secret.
After four months in Puerto Rico rebuilding a DC-IO Alonzo and his team had island fever and were ready to go home so they sealed the nose-cone with duct tape and flew the plane out. Alonzo, says, "that's why airlines don't give reasons for flight delays ... you wouldn't want to know some of the things we do".
Alonzo made the decision to quit training new mechanics and study comedy when he discovered he was spending more time telling them jokes than teaching them to read blue prints. In the interest of flight safety he decided to take a comedy class.
His first show was his comedy graduation, which was at the Mayfair Theatre in Santa Monica. Some time would pass before Alonzo would play a venue of such caliber. It was now time for him to "pay his dues".
Alonzo hit the road, breaking his act in throughout the nation's entertainment capitals, Beaumont, Texas; Missoula, Montana; and of course, Pocatello, Idaho.
Returning to L.A. with a honed act, Alonzo worked the open mike circuit appearing in coffeehouses, bars, bowling alleys, and hotel lobbies.
Alonzo's first real break came when he opened for "IN LIVING COLOR'S" Tommy Davidson, which led to the "APOLLO COMEDY HOUR". Now, his career was on a roll. He went on to New faces of Comedy at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and has returned to the Festival for their Gala show.

Found Footage Festival at the Drafthouse Comedy Theater
Schedule
& Buy Now!
The Found Footage Festival is a one-of-a-kind comedy show featuring odd and hilarious clips from videotapes found at thrift stores and garage sales across the country. Curators Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher, whose credits include The Onion and the Late Show with David Letterman, host each screening in-person and provide their unique observations and commentary on these found video obscurities. From the curiously-produced industrial training video to the forsaken home movie donated to Goodwill, the Found Footage Festival resurrects these forgotten treasures and serves them up in a lively celebration of all things found.
The Found Footage Festival was founded in New York in 2004 and has gone on to sell out hundreds of shows across the U.S. and Canada, including the HBO Comedy Festival at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. The festival has been featured on National Public Radio, ABC World News, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and G4 TV’s Attack of the Show, and has been named a “Critic’s Pick” in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and The Chicago Tribune.
About the Curators
Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett began collecting found videotapes in 1991 after stumbling across a training video entitled, “Inside and Outside Custodial Duties,” at a McDonald’s in their home state of Wisconsin. Since then, they have compiled an impressive collection of strange, outrageous and profoundly stupid videos. Pickett, a former film technician, and Prueher, a former segment producer at the Late Show with David Letterman, have written for The Onion and Entertainment Weekly and recently directed the feature-length documentary, “Dirty Country” (www.dirtycountrymovie.com), which won the Audience Award at the 2007 South By Southwest Film Festival.
Found Footage Festival Accolades
“Skull-crushingly funny…Bank on a big crowd and more than a few laughs at the expense of videotaped others.”
-The Onion
“Funny enough to cause serious abdominal damage.”
-City Pages
“Riotous…That’s the express aim of the Found Footage Festival: vigorous, athletic laughter at the misfortune of others.”
-San Francisco Chronicle
“No mortal man could possibly come up with something this entertaining...It’ll be an experience you’ll be talking about for a long time to come.”

Barry Taylor’s stage show will deliver a fantastic, exciting show with lots of audience participation and comedy. He leaves his audiences feeling exhilarated, uplifted, and refreshed. Barry’s performance is strong, his approach is singular and his delivery is animated. Long after his last bow is taken, audience members will continue to talk about the performance and their favorite routine.
Washington Post Theatre Critic, Lloyd Rose:
"It all looks like magic"
"The opportunity to see magic done this close–
as compared with David Copperfield at the cavernous Patriot Center–is more than a treat, it's almost a luxury."
" ... isn't a show where your attention wanders"
"Taylor has decades of magic performance, but he's not slick. Taylor has a guy-next-door quality. He' a down-home entertainer, but there's norhing ordinary about his skills. Close as you're sitting, you can't catch any of the tricks."
Bob Davis , WGMS Theatre Critic:
"...the most impressive magician I've ever seen–
and I've seen the best, such as David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, and Siegfried and Roy."
Buzz McClain , of the
Washington Post Weekend Section:
"By the time the piece is done, the audience is laughing... as if on a roller coaster. Now that's magic!"
Washington DC's City Paper:
"It was terrific! You never get to see magic up close like that."
"... but the slickness with which Taylor works through the standard magician's bag of ticks, as well as his relaxed stage presence, project a professional air."
The Journal
" ...much laughter and applause..."
Sarah Kaufman, of the
Washington Post Weekend Section
"Who says there's no such thing as magic?"
"But there is no dismissing the extreme confidence and grace of Barry, who works his magic just inches from the front row."
Intermission Magazine
"Spectacular! It's like nothing you've experienced before! Barry Taylor is a true master of the craft... Mind-bending feats are performed within inches of the audience. The show is fast-paced and involves a lot of audience participation. Taylor's greatest strength is his ability to read people's minds. It's uncanny, he's never wrong!"
Chevy Chase Land Company
"Wonderful time! Incredible performance and great illusions. How can we possibly top your performance next year?"
Osram Sylvania
"Unforgettable! Your magic show changed what could have been a boring dinner into a mystical evening of wonder and surprise."
